Virginia Eastern Shore

Accomack County is the northern of Virginia's two Eastern Shore counties, occupying the peninsula between the Chesapeake Bay to the west and the Atlantic barrier islands to the east. Chincoteague Island, at the county's northern end, is a well-established vacation destination anchored by Assateague Island National Seashore and its wild pony population, which draws over 1.5 million visitors annually. Cape Charles, the county's historic town on the Bay, has seen significant investment and revival over the past decade, with a restored main street, boutique hotels, a marina, golf at Bay Creek, and a beach on the Chesapeake Bay that is among the most protected and swimmable on the East Coast. Cape Charles is attracting buyers from Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Hampton Roads who want Bay access, a small-town environment, and manageable commute distances to the Bridge-Tunnel. Northampton County Public Schools serves the district. The county's agricultural interior and bay-front farmland offer large acreage at prices that reflect the rural character of the lower peninsula.
